Asaase Radio’s #SafeMotorway4all campaign gives Accra-Tema Motorway project major boost

Asaase Radio has launched #SafeMotorway4All, a public interest campaign to signal the urgency to restore the Accra-Tema Motorway and improve safety

Maripoma Limited, the accomplished firm behind the ongoing Pokuase-Nsawam road project, is set to enter an alliance with the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, signaling a transformative phase for the Accra-Tema Motorway project.

The genesis of this collaboration can be traced back to Asaase Radio’s influential campaign, #SafeMotorway4all, a rallying cry that found resonance among citizens advocating for improved safety measures on the expressway.

The success of this campaign is palpable, serving as a catalyst for citizen participation and ultimately influencing the collaborative efforts aimed at addressing safety concerns on the Accra-Tema Motorway.

The Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund as a result has established a wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to overseeing and executing the Accra-Tema Motorway venture. This initiative underscores a commitment to efficient project management and successful completion, aligning with the shared aspirations of Maripoma Limited and the concerned citizens who actively engaged in the #SafeMotorway4all initiative.

The chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Patrick Boamah, shed light on these significant developments, providing insights into the rationale behind the cost of the Accra-Tema Motorway expansion project.

“The Accra-Tema motorway project is going to be a joint venture between Maripoma Limited, the company working on the Pokuase-Nsawam road and the Ghana Infrastructure Fund, which has set a wholly subsidiary company to help execute the project,” Boamah told Asaase News.

He said the project is expected to last for three years.

About campaign

The Asaase Radio public interest campaign series will spotlight the importance of maintaining critical infrastructure and citizens’ power in bringing about change. The campaign promises to bring critical attention to an issue that affects the lives of many Ghanaians.

The Accra-Tema Motorway is an essential artery for Ghana’s economy, linking the largest port in the country with the capital city.

However, years of neglect and lack of maintenance have left the N1 in a state of disrepair, leading to accidents and traffic congestion.

In line with #SeeSomethingSaySomething and the government’s efforts to urge all Ghanaians to be active “citizens, not spectators”, the #SafeMotorway4All campaign will identify key challenges to the smooth working of the N1 and push for action to address these.

Don’t forget to join the campaign by sharing your experiences, appeals and solutions on social media with the hashtags #SafeMotorway4All.
