Notorious robber who terrorised Accra’s wealthy neighbourhoods captured after international chase
Togolese authorities apprehended Mujibu in Lomé on 10 January 2025, after intelligence revealed his presence in the country

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest and extradition of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Adinda Abdul Mujibu, following a months-long manhunt involving international collaboration.
Mujibu, who had been on the run after a series of high-profile robberies in affluent Accra neighbourhoods between 2022 and 2024, was captured in Togo and handed over to Ghanaian authorities on 14 May 2025.
At a press briefing on Saturday, 17 May, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, identified the suspect by his multiple aliases, including Rashid Bawa, Maxwell, Papa Rich, and Dawa. Mujibu’s crimes primarily targeted wealthy individuals in upscale areas such as East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Airport Residential Area, and Adjiriganor.
International chase and arrest
The arrest was the culmination of a coordinated operation involving Interpol, with Ghana formally requesting support from Interpol Lomé. Togolese authorities apprehended Mujibu in Lomé on 10 January 2025, after intelligence revealed his presence in the country.
“His arrest is a testament to the robust international cooperation between Ghanaian and Togolese authorities, as well as the unwavering dedication of our law enforcement officers,” said DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor.
Extradition process
Following his capture, Togolese authorities held Mujibu pending judicial procedures. The extradition was approved on 12 May 2025, under the Agreement on Cooperation in Criminal Matters Between Police Services of West African States, signed in Accra on 19 December 2003.
A five-member Ghanaian delegation, led by a senior police official, travelled to Lomé aboard a military aircraft to complete the extradition process. Togolese Police Commissioner Principal ASI Elo Ani formally handed over the suspect to Ghanaian authorities, with representatives from the Ghana Embassy in Togo present.
Robbery spree and investigation
Mujibu’s crime spree, which police described as violent and meticulously planned, caused fear among residents of Accra’s affluent areas. Police investigations, aided by CCTV footage and public support, revealed that Mujibu operated with an accomplice, Alidu Mazuk, who was arrested in Ghana on 4 September 2024.
Mujibu managed to escape Ghana, with authorities initially suspecting he was hiding in Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, or Nigeria. Further investigations confirmed he possessed both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents.
The police have assured the public of their continued commitment to ensuring safety and security. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
