NPP primaries: Fumso polling station executives rally solid support for K T Hammond

K T Hammond faces competition from Sammy Binfo Darkwa, Kwabena Asamoah and Dr Boakye Acheampong in the upcoming primaries

Over 40 polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fumso electoral area, Adansi Asokwa constituency, have vehemently voiced their support for the incumbent Member of Parliament, KT Hammond, ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries on 27 January.

During a recent press conference, Isaac Afful, the convener for the group, declared, “We will vote massively for Mr Hammond to preserve the NPP’s votes in the constituency and for the MP to continue his good works.”

The press conference was prompted by a protest against K T Hammond in Adansi Fumso on January 19, allegedly led by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Afful dismissed the allegations against the MP as “false and malicious,” suggesting a deliberate attempt to tarnish Hammond’s reputation before the primaries.

Afful pointed out that some of the protesters were known NDC members, including Agnes Aculey and Franklin Yamoah, who held positions within the NDC.

He accused Yaw Ofori, who claimed to be an NPP member but was anti-KT since 2012 of aligning with the NDC against the MP.

Afful debunked claims that K T Hammond had done little for the Fumso electoral area, stating, “Fumso as a community has benefited greatly from the MP.”

He also listed various projects in education, health, electricity, and roads initiated by the MP, including the construction of 100 kilometres of asphalt roads from Fumso to Adansi Aboabo No.1

Afful accused the protesters of acting in the interest of Sammy Binfoh, a contender in the parliamentary primaries, suggesting they lacked a valid message against the incumbent MP.

K T Hammond, who has been in Parliament since January 2001, faces competition from Sammy Binfo Darkwa, Kwabena Asamoah, and Dr. Boakye Acheampong in the upcoming primaries.
