Northern Region: Turmoil in NDC as party sacks election director

Some NDC members from the Northern Region petitioned the national functional executive committee in Accra, demanding Aminu Mohammed Adam's immediate dismissal

Tensions are rising within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region following the dismissal of Aminu Mohammed Adam as the election director for the party in the region.

Some members of the NDC in the Northern Region petitioned the national functional executive committee in Accra, demanding Aminu Mohammed Adam’s immediate dismissal.

The petitioners claim that the former election director abandoned his duties at the regional coalition room during the 2020 general elections.

The petitioners claim that this resulted in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning the Zabzugu constituency seat.

The NDC’s functional executive committee has issued a statement directing the northern regional executives to fire the region’s election director.

“This is to inform you that an appeal was filed against the appointment of Aminu Mohammed Adam as the director of elections for your region.

“The matter was subsequently referred to the conflict resolution directorate for review, which recommended that Aminu Mohammed Adams be made to step aside for a new candidate to be appointed to occupy the position.”
