North East Regional Minister designate pledges quarterly engagement with MPs to resolve conflicts

Ibrahim’s commitment to dialogue and collaboration with MPs aims to find lasting solutions to conflicts in the North East Region, focusing on youth engagement and transparency.

North East Regional Minister designate, Tia Ibrahim, pledges to work with all six MPs in the region to find lasting solutions to resolve conflicts.

Tia Ibrahim plans to engage MPs and stakeholders, including youth, in mandatory quarterly meetings to find lasting solutions together.

The North East Region has experienced conflicts, particularly in Bunkpurugu, Yunyoo, and Chereponi districts.

Tia Ibrahim’s commitment to dialogue and collaboration with the MPs is a reassuring step towards addressing these issues.

By engaging with MPs quarterly, the Minister aims to foster cooperation, transparency, and lasting solutions in conflict areas.

Tia Ibrahim publicly pledged before the appointment committee in Accra on Monday (27 January 2025) during vetting.

“We need to have effective engagement with relevant stakeholders, Chiefs, opinion leaders and youth if given the node by this august house.”

“I will engage all my MPs, and I will make it mandatory for every quarter for us to sit down and review some of the issues that are coming up and look at how we can combat it on the ground,” said.

He stated that unemployment fuels regional conflicts, and the agric mechanization policy will engage youth to resolve them.

“These conflicts sometimes emanate from idly hands and with this Agric mechanisation policy that is coming, which I am going to give it my blessing if I am given the node by this house.

“When the youth are engaged, I think we will reduce drastically some of these skirmishes that come up in the region,” he said.

This pledge is a positive step towards conflict resolution and regional development.
