North East Region: Residents protest against police brutality and robberies

The protest follows the 22 May robbery incident at a fuel station involving four gunmen who bolted with about GHC15,000 and mobile phones

Residents of Kubori, Yirangu, and Lunsi in the North East Region have protested against alleged police brutality and incessant armed robbery attacks.

The protest follows the 22 May robbery incident at a fuel station involving four gunmen who bolted with about GHC15,000 and mobile phones. One was arrested and lynched by the locals, but the other three managed to escape.

Two groups – Kubori Millennium Club and the Sons and Daughters of Mamprugu Moaduri District – have condemned the state of insecurity in the region.

They want the police to release those who have been arrested in connection with the lynching.

The youth claimed about nine robberies have been recorded in the district between January and May 2022.
