No need for panic buying – NPA reassures Ghanaians on fuel availability

In a statement, the NPA explained that the Technical Committee on Energy, established by the Chief of Staff, met on Friday (10 January 2025), to address the logistical challenges causing the issue.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured Ghanaians that there is no need to worry about the reported petrol shortages in northern Ghana.

In a statement, the NPA explained that the Technical Committee on Energy, established by the Chief of Staff, met on Friday (10 January 2025), to address the logistical challenges causing the issue.

The NPA revealed that special measures have been introduced to resolve the problem. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been granted permission to load petrol from the Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi to supply retail outlets in the five northern regions. Additionally, OMCs are loading extra petrol from depots in Tema to support the supplies coming from Kumasi.

Further arrangements have been made with BOST to transfer nine million litres of petrol currently in the pipeline between the Buipe and Bolgatanga depots into storage at Bolgatanga. This will ensure an immediate supply to retail outlets in the northern regions.

The NPA emphasized that all these measures are being carried out simultaneously to address the issue promptly.

“Consequently, we wish to encourage the consuming public to go about their normal business and avoid panic buying,” the NPA stated.

It added, “The NPA wishes to reassure Ghanaians of adequate fuel stocks in the country, and there are vessels lined up to discharge products into the country.”
