The MCE for Nkwanta South, Bright K Lenwah, has said there are many tourist attraction sites in the Oti Region which must be uncovered to boost the local economy.
Speaking to Asaase News’s, Solomon M-Ahiable, the MCE said, Shiare is one of the communities with attractive waterfalls in the Oti region.
Shiare is the ancestral home and capital of the Akyode people.
According to Lenwah, the fortunes of the country could be much improved if the tourism sector is given the needed attention.
He reiterated his determination to open up Shiare and Nkwanta South as a whole to tourists and to make the municipality the preferred destination for tourists.
Shiare waterfall is yet to be fully utilised even though it has been in existence for centuries.
The route from Nkwanta to Shiare is a very tiring journey anytime one embarks on it which at times discourages travellers from getting to the foot of the mountains but the beautiful and serene atmosphere will make you forget about the tiredness once you get there and with the beautiful waterfalls one will never wish to leave the site.
It is expected that when the road construction is completed it will attract many investors and tourists which will boost the economic value of the community, the municipal assembly and the region at large.
Lenwah has, therefore, assured the residents of his resolve to ensure Shiare waterfalls is opened up and accessible to all.
A resident of Nkwanta South, Patience Tawia said, the people in the area struggle to get their farm produce to reach the market. Adding that, nurses and teachers suffer to come to the community for their day-to-day activities.
She appealed to the government to come to their aid and provide them with good roads and support their schools with infrastructure.
Assembly member for the area, Benjamin Kwame said, one of the greatest challenges they are faced with is communication since they do not have a good network.
He added that they have appealed to the Assembly for network connectivity and are waiting patiently for a favourable outcome
The assemblyman is therefore appealing to investors and NGOs to help address their network challenges and develop the Shiare waterfalls.
He believes this will bring a lot of transformation and development to the residents and the Nkwanta South municipality when attention is given to the site.
