O B Amoah aide wins Akuapem South parliamentary primary

Out of the total 542 valid votes cast, Yeboah polled 267, representing 49.3%, making him the winner of the delayed primary in Akuapem South

Eric Apeadu Yeboah, the special aide to O B Amoah, the outgoing New Patriotic Party MP for Akuapem South in the Eastern Region, has been elected as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2024 general election.

Out of a total of 542 valid votes cast, Yeboah polled 267, representing 49.3%, securing him the parliamentary candidacy.

Apeadu Yeboah’s closest competitor, Kwame Ofori Gyau, polled 152 votes. Of the two other contestants, Frank Aidoo, the local municipal chief executive, secured 69 and Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah obtained 54 of the valid votes cast.

The Akuapem South parliamentary primary was postponed after Amoah, the incumbent MP, withdrew from the race before the NPP carried out a nationwide vote in constituencies held by the party on Saturday 27 January. Reports suggested that Aidoo, the MCE for the area, had held back from entering the race only on the understanding that Amoah would be running again for the seat.

Following discussions, Aidoo was included on the ballot alongside Yeboah and two other candidates, Annor Mensah and Ofori Gyau.

Tony Osei Adjei, the Eastern regional secretary of the NPP, supervised the election. After the process, he urged the NPP rank and file to promote unity among party members.

He also dismissed claims that the delay in conducting the primary would affect the party’s prospects negatively in the December election.

In his acceptance speech, Eric Yeboah Apeadu expressed gratitude to the party delegates for the honour done him and called on them to work diligently to help the NPP “break the 8”.
