VIDEO: Fire guts several shops in Koforidua

The Ghana National Fire Service in Koforidua in the Eastern Region says the fire has now been brought under control

Fire has gutted several shops at the Central Business District in Koforidua in the Eastern Region destroying properties worth millions of cedis.

Reports suggest Tuesday’s incident was caused by an electrical fault at one of the shops spreading to nearby shops in the area.

Eyewitness say officials of the Ghana Fire Service could not arrive at the scene on time leaving the fire to cause extensive damage.

Earlier attempt to get the municipal fire service to douse the fire proved futile due to insufficient logistics.

The Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire service Assistant Director of Fire (ADO 1) Kwamena Beadio ADO1 however told journalists they  have been able to bring the situation under control.

“We received a call around at 10am this morning that there has been a fire outbreak at Obaa Yaa area involving some shops, so quickly we dispatched our fire tender to the scene” he said.

Beadio added “When we came the fire was well alight but fortunately our men have been able to bring the situation under control, we are now undergoing salvaging to ensure all the fire has been put out. So, everything is under control now”
