Ashanti Region: Policeman who shot girlfriend charged with murder

The police prosecution, led by Kofi Blagodzi, said the police has received instructions from the attorney-general’s department to formally charge Twumasi with murder

The Attorney-General has directed the police to formally charge the officer who shot his girlfriend with murder.

The Asokore Mampong district court, presided over by Samuel Buaben Quansah, has remanded the suspect, Ahmed Twumasi, in police custody. It has set 20 June for committal proceedings. This will pave way for the case to be heard in the high court.

The police prosecution, led by Kofi Blagodzi, said the police has received instructions from the attorney-general’s department to formally charge Twumasi with murder.

Victoria Dapaah was shot dead in April by the suspect after an argument.

Her uncle, Kwame Aduboffour, who spoke to the media after proceedings said he is convinced justice will be served.

“We thought the JUSAG strike could prolong this case… but from what transpired in court, the family is satisfied with the process,” he said.

The deceased will be laid to rest on 24 June, Aduboffour confirmed to Asaase News.
