Sefwi Juaboso: Gunmen open fire on policeman on escort duty

The Inspector General of Police has since ordered a full scale investigation into circumstances leading to Saturday's incident

A police officer is battling for his life after unidentified gunmen shot him while on escort duty at Kotosaa, a community near Juaboso in the Western North Region.

Sergeant Thomas Akoka stationed at the Juaboso District Command was on an escort duty at Kotosaa when he was attacked by the gun-wielding men at about 13:00 hrs GMT.

A reinforcement team dispatched to the scene rushed the victim to the emergency unit of the St. John of God Hospital at Sefwi Asafo for treatment.

“He sustained eight gunshot wounds on his body and was rushed to the hospital. For now he is in stable condition,” a police source told Asaaseradio.com.

The police have already launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“The IGP and the Police Director General of Welfare have since reached out to the victim as full scale investigations have begun into circumstances leading to the attack,” the source added.
