Ghana’s security services will today, Thursday (26 November 2020), embark on a nationwide peace march with barely two weeks to the 7 December presidential and parliamentary elections.
The march is to reassure the public that the security services are prepared to provide the security needed for a peaceful election.
It also seeks to encourage public support for peace – rallying round the Ghana flag – and to show force to potential troublemakers, an official statement said.
Areas earmarked for Thursday’s march include the capital cities of all 16 regions.
The exercise will involve the Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Prisons Service, the National Fire Service, the Immigration Service, the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority and the National Intelligence Bureau, together with the National Ambulance Service and the National Commission for Civic Education.

According to the statement, the exercise is expected to cause vehicular traffic and diversions on streets of the areas earmarked at certain times of the morning.
The police administration, however, has given the assurance that security personnel will be deployed to manage the traffic and diversions. It further urged members of the public to co-operate.
“They can also wave their miniature Ghana national flag in support of the peace march and in support of peace,” the statement added.
