Police arrest notorious armed robber in Ho

According to the police in Ho, Volta Region, the suspected armed robber has been on their wanted list for years

The Ho police have arrested a notorious armed robber who has been a wanted man for considerable time.

Prince Adu, 30, aka “Dracula”, unemployed, was arrested at a hideout while asleep after he robbed an immigration officer at gunpoint at about 2.30am.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Alexander Yeboah, the acting municipal police commander for Ho, who confirmed the arrest, said Adu has been on the police wanted list for years.

He said the suspect’s name has been cited in connection with many incidents of crime in the company of Courage Banitsi.

Banitsi is serving a sentence of 33 years for robbery and rape.

Jack-knives and weed

ASP Yeboah said Dracula accosted the immigration officer around the KK House traffic lights in Ho as he was setting off for Accra in the line of formal duty. The suspect is said to have frightened the victim with a dummy cocked gun.

ASP Yeboah said the suspect demanded the officer’s bag, phone and money.

After collecting the items, the suspect ordered the victim to go, priming the gun.

Adu then slipped into the dark. The immigration officer subsequently made a report to the police.

ASP Yeboah said a reliable informer blew the suspect’s cover, leading to his arrest.

A search of Adu’s room produced two jack-knives and other implements believed to have been used for criminal operations. Substances believed to be “weed“ were recovered.

Call for more information

He said Adu would be arraigned before court as soon as investigations are complete. He further urged any members of the public around Ho who have suffered robbery or rape to assist the police by coming forward to identify the suspect.

He said the police had spent a great deal of money to achieve the arrest of the suspect and urged the public to share information which may lead to the arrest of other criminals.

ASP Yeboah said the suspect claimed he wanted to surrender to the police at one point but certain members of the public discouraged him from doing so.
