Pastor butchers 90-year-old wife to death in Central Region

The pastor, popularly known as Osofo Ouattara, allegedly killed his wife and attempted suicide before being arrested by the police

The Overseer of the Twelve Apostles Church at Twifo-Ayebiahwe in the Twifo-Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region, Kofi Prempeh, has been arrested by the police for allegedly butchering his wife to death.

The deceased has been identified as Sofo Maame Ama Tawiah. The police are yet to establish the motive behind Prempeh’s action.

According to preliminary investigations by the police, a six-year-old grand-daughter living with the couple, heard her grandmother screaming for help around 2:00 am on Saturday, 7 November 2020. The girl subsequently found the grandmother in a pool of blood after the altercation.

The 80-year-old pastor, known among the locals as ‘Sofo Ouattara’, according to the police, attempted to commit suicide afterwards, but was arrested.

“On 8 November around 3am the Denkyira police received complaint that Kofi Prempeh aged 80, had butchered his wife Maame Ama Tawiah, 90. The police upon receiving the report went to the crime scene and found the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood,” Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Central Regional Police Command, Sgt Isaac Evans Ettie, confirmed the incident to Asaase Radio’s Baah Acheamfuor.

“Police further searched and arrested the suspect, who had attempted suicide by cutting his throat. He was rushed to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital and was treated and discharged by the doctor. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigation. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Twifo Praso Government Hospital,” he added.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned before court soon.
