KNUST student dies in fall from campus balcony

Three students of KNUST died on Saturday in two separate incidents on campus, school authorities have confirmed

A student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) died on Saturday when he fell from a balcony on the first floor of Unity Hall of residence, authorities reported.

According to KNUST spokesperson Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, the student had gone to visit his friend when he collapsed on the stairs of the first floor and hit the head against the wall.

The 19-year-old mathematics student was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Two more deaths

School authorities said another incident happened that dawn killing two other students on the spot. Speaking to the media, Dr Bekoe said a car with five students rammed into a tree on campus around 3 am.

The other three occupants of the vehicle are receiving treatment at the hospital.

“We learnt a car with about five occupants who are all students, one is a student of the University of Ghana and four of them are students of KNUST. They crashed into a tree by the roadside around 3am. Two of them lost their lives, one is in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and two other occupants are in stable condition and responding to treatment,” Dr Bekoe said.

The police are investigating both incidents on campus.
