The Founder and Leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev Christian Kwabena Andrews, has stated that he is not surprised about his sterling performance in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The first-time presidential candidate is gradually becoming the third force based on provisional results obtained in the 2020 elections after polling about 50, 000 votes to beat the other smaller political parties.

Speaking to Beatrice Aidoo on Asaase Radio, he said he is not going to consider a merger with any political party going forward.

“I am not surprised because when I was going for the elections, I knew definitely I will do well, but to remove this people outright is not easy, it will take a little bit of time, so me myself I knew I was going to do better but not to win the election totally,” he said.

“But I cannot come out to tell you that I cannot win, what will my followers say, definitely you need to achieve a point and base on that you continue,” he said.

He has since conceded defeat to President Akufo-Addo ahead of the official announcement of the final results.

According to Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, the GUM flagbearer has already congratulated Akufo-Addo.

In a post on his Facebook page, Arhin disclosed that Rev Andrews, who is popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom had “just called President Akufo-Addo to congratulate him on his victory in the election.”

Meanwhile, Flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Henry Lartey, has also conceded defeat to Akufo-Addo.

“You fought a good fight and won a battle you deserve so I congratulate you for your victory and offer you all my support,” he said.
