Life Beacon International donates to health facilities in Ada

Life Beacon International, a UK based NGO, through her “mother at birth project” has donated items to health centers at Ada

Life Beacon International, a UK based non-governmental organization, has donated through their “mother at birth project”, personal care and hospital items to mothers at health centers at Ada, in the Greater Accra Region.

With a team of ten members, the organization visited the Nkaseh Health Center, Ada East District Hospital and the Ada Health Center at Ada to donate relief packages to nursing mothers and pregnant women.

The relief packages were made up of a medium-sized bucket with baby essentials such as shower gel, baby powder, diapers and other baby care items.

In an exclusive interview with Asaase Radio, Ruby Appiah-Campbell, the organization’s founder and chairperson, stated that “not only does the organization focus on educating and mentoring young people, but the objective is to have mothers nurture their wards in love to help in the child’s development.”

According to her, when mothers receive gifts after child delivery, it influences the kind of love and attention their babies receive from them.

“We undertake projects that will help mothers at birth. We believe that as a mother gives birth, the love is what makes a mother take good care of the child. The main purpose of the project is that when we give the gift to them, we believe that most mothers will feel very privileged and even feel that this child is a lucky child.”

“If they receive gifts from strangers they might feel this child is a very special child and they will have that kind of love for the child and it might make them give the child the necessary nurture so that the children can grow to the stage where the charity of Life Beacon can intervene.”

Further to that, Ruby said, “The organization has plans underway to launch a scholarship fund this year to support young people with their education as well as a seed fund to support young entrepreneurs with startup capital.”

“There have been many cases where we have paid for the tuition of some young people. This year we plan to officially launch a scholarship fund where we would be able to solicit for funding and get people to also apply for the funding.”

“We also have programs online where people come to ask questions about how to start a business so we support to fine-tune their business ideas. This is because there is high unemployment among the youth with undergraduate degrees,” she said.

The benevolent mothers who received the relief items and the nurses expressed their gratitude and hoped that it would be a continuous gesture to help support the nursing mothers and pregnant women in the community.

The organization plans to extend its charity work to other African countries and calls for more volunteers and donors.
