VIDEO: Berekum MCE collapses at Independence Day parade

The municipal head Kofi Agyei fainted while delivering the anniversary speech and was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum for medical attention

The municipal chief executive (MCE) for Berekum in the Bono Region, Kofi Agyei, collapsed while reading his speech at the Independence Day celebrations on Monday (6 March). 

He was immediately rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum for medical attention. The presiding member of the assembly Joseph Baffour Awuah, however, continued reading the speech on his behalf.

The event was held at the Berekum Golden City park.

Representatives from the Berekum police command, traditional leaders, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other distinguished personalities attended the colourful ceremony. 

Officials of the assembly have confirmed to Asaase News that the MCE has since been discharged.

According to paramedics, two students also collapsed during the event.
