The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 22-year-old Daniel Odame, alias Churchill, for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old boy.
A suspected accomplice Francis Arhin, who pleaded not guilty has been granted a GHS50,000 bail with two sureties.
“Today the accused persons were before court and they pleaded not guilty on all accounts,” the police prosecutor Inspector Oparebea Amoako told the media.
Court documents show that Odame, who was being pursued after a report by a parent on 22 October 2021, was arrested, together with his friend, Arhin, 24, who was also caught with another 17-year-old boy in the same room on that fateful day.
The DOVVSU officers made the shocking discovery at Atasamanso in Kumasi, following a report by one of the victim’s father who doubles as a Presbyterian pastor, when he realized his son who could not be traced at the time may be with the suspect at his home.
The duo made their first appearance before a circuit court in Kumasi on Wednesday (5 January), for an in-camera hearing. Odame was charged with defilement and aiding and abetting unnatural carnal knowledge, while Arhin was also charged with unnatural carnal knowledge.
The court presided over by Her Honour, Gloria Mensah Bonsu, however remanded Odame into police custody for allegedly sodomising the 15-year-old boy to reappear on 19 January 2022.
Arhin will also reappear before the court on 26 January 2022.
