Ho West MP: I want to be in parliament for three more terms

Bedzrah said he wants to break Bagbin’s record by serving for, at least, eight terms

The member of parliament (MP) for Ho West constituency, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, retained his seat in Saturday’s primary election.

In an interview with the media after casting his vote, the MP said he always works in the interest of his constituents and will continue to make them proud. He won the 2019 primary race by 54% against Samuel Dzidula Danku, a businessman, and Eric Alifo, a legal practitioner.

Bedzrah won last Saturday’s race by 48.76% against three other candidates: Samuel Dzidula Danku, Eric Alifo and Edwin Adae.

Prior to the primaries, some delegates held a press conference against Bedzrah. They accused him of favouritism, monetisation in politics and corrupt leadership. They campaigned against his ambition to remain in parliament.

The MP denied the accusations and reaffirmed his commitment to represent his constituents saying he is still a young man.

He said, “Look at me. I am a young person. I started … very young. My predecessor [Francis Aggrey Agbotse, MP from 1997 to 2009] started when he was 52 years. I am only 54 years now, so I still have three terms more to go.”

He stated that he wants to break the record of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. He said, “I want to break Bagbin’s record. He did seven terms. I would want to do, at least, eight terms.”

Bedzrah served on Parliament’s works and housing committee, House committee and currently serving on the government assurance committee.
