Dubai Expo: Ghana positions itself to woo more investors

President Akufo-Addo who will grace the occasion on Ghana's day at the Expo is expected to hold high level discussions with some investors on the sidelines of the event

Ghana is gearing up to leverage the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020 to woo more investors into critical sectors of the economy, Yofi Grant, the chief executive officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre(GIPC) has said.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who will grace the occasion on Ghana’s day at the Expo is expected to hold high level discussions with some investors on the sidelines of the event.

Speaking to Kwaku Nyhira-Addo ahead of Ghana investment week, Grant said the Emirate is signing a comprehensive  economic partnership agreement with government to facilitate activities at the Expo.

“We have to do a few changes, ..we are trying to do a few changes even to our pavilion to make it even more representative of the bigger Ghana, and we have all these programmes lined-up.

“Of course the President is going to be there, he s going to meet some of the top business people in the emirate, the top top, and Ghana will probably be one of the countries to be able to pull that through, he is also going to participate  in the programme in the morning, the flag raising, so he will come to the pavilion and see a bit of Expo 2020.”

“And then on the Ghana Day, which is on 8 March, we also have quite an elaborate programme for business, we are have this el  will have, we gonna have cocktail , he is going to have business breakfast , which is only by invitation, because we are going to have some  high level conversations there,” Grant told ABS.

The GIPC boss says both countries are exploring avenues to take advantage of bigger markets beyond the Expo.

“Our activity in the emirate shows that there is a certain important  strategic positioning between the Emirates and Ghana, Ghana can use the emirate as an access to market and emirate can also use Ghana as an access to the African market,” he added.

Dubai Expo

Dubbed “Dubai Expo2020”, the exhibition event is projected to bring together approximately 192 countries and is expected to draw between 25 to 30 million visitors, making it the largest international gathering of its kind in the UAE and the history of expositions.

The Expo, if not for the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic was originally scheduled to be held from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021.

However, with countries easing restrictions and with activities gradually returning to normalcy, the event has been postponed and began  from 1 October 2021 to 31 March, 2022.
