Fire guts four Aayalolo buses in Kumasi

Wednesday's fire outbreak comes after the Ghana National Fire Service raised an alarm of a planned arson attack on various public installations in the Ashanti region

Four out of 40 BRT buses (Aayalolo) stationed at the workshop at Oforikrom in Kumasi were on Wednesday night gutted by fire.

At least three fire machines were deployed to the scene following a distress call to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

It comes after the GNFS raised an alarm of a planned arson attack on various public installations in the Ashanti Region in the wake of growing post-election tensions.

Confirming the latest incident to Asaase News, spokesperson for the GNFS in Ashanti Region, Desmond Ackah, said investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the fire.

The fire spokesperson, however, said inadequate fire hydrants in the Kumasi metropolis continue to impede their work. He is calling on the Ghana Water Company Limited to fix the challenge.

Accusation

Meanwhile, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind recent market fires around the nation.

The NPP general secretary, John Boadu, says the main opposition party is on the record as having stated its intention to destabilize Ghana. The NDC national chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, is standing trial for making this very threat.

“For instance, the NDC national chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, is on record to have incited his party foot soldiers to undertake a series of ‘overt and covert operations’, including setting markets ablaze and embarking on armed robbery attacks in order to create fear and a sense of insecurity in the country,” a statement from Boadu said.

“Ofosu-Ampofo is of course being prosecuted in court for this treasonable comment, and the court has established as a matter of fact that it was his voice in that leaked tape.
