St Michael’s Specialist Hospital performs first successful cardiac catheterization on Nigerian patient

Hearts surgeons and medical doctors at the St Michael’s Specialist Hospital (SMSH) have performed their first successful cardiac catheterization on a Nigerian patient who traveled to Ghana to seek medical assistance at the new state-of-the-art fully Ghanaian-owned private hospital which was commissioned by President Akufo-Addo on Saturday, 30 September 2023.

The team that performed the medical process on the medical tourist (the Nigerian patient) at the SMSH was led by Dr Lawrence Sereboe, a renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon and former Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital located at Abete Link, in Lapaz on digital address GA 4296509, a vibrant suburb in the Greater Accra Region, offers cardiology consultation, interventional cardiology care, 24/7 OPD, emergency medicine, laboratory services, CT-scan, and x-ray & ultrasound services.

Other specialist services available at the SMSH are; gynaecology consultations and surgeries, antenatal & delivery care, general surgery , surgical care including urology, orthopedy and plastic surgeries, inpatient care, mental health consultation, dental care, neurosurgical consultations and surgeries, and general OPD consultation.

The St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital, gearing up to its full potential in the coming year is home to about 150 Ghanaian staff ranging from housekeepers to administrators to nurses and doctors.

The leadership of the hospital say they are poised and ready to contribute their quota to help make Ghana a center of excellence in medical care in West Africa by 2030.

Mr Michael Banahene as well as his wife and his brother, the founders and owners of SMSH in an interaction with Asaase News, expressed their joy at the achievement of the hospital.

The board of SMSH congratulates the surgeons, management, and staff of the hospital for their dedication to duty and for the successes they have recorded since the hospital began operations.

He noted that the St Michael’s Specialist Hospital (SMSH) will continue to serve its clients with the highest level of professionalism and care.

Additionally, he indicated that the hospital will continue to maintain its high-tech equipment and invest in even more advanced health technologies and equipment to stay abreast with new trends in healthcare delivery services.
