Bawumia holds discussions with Tony Blair on access to COVID-19 vaccines

Bawumia's meeting with Blair also centered on other critical issues such as telemedicine, digital technology and greenhouse technology

Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held discussions with former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in Accra on access to COVID-19 vaccines.

The meeting is coming barely a week after some developed countries backtracked on their decision to support poorer countries with COVID-19 vaccines.

Wednesday’s meeting also centered on other critical issues such as telemedicine, digital technology and greenhouse technology.

“I had a fruitful meeting with former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, this afternoon at the Jubilee House. We discussed far-reaching public policy matters on digital technology, COVID-19 vaccine access, telemedicine and greenhouse technology,” he wrote on Facebook.

The vice-president also used the opportunity to brief Tony Blair on some inroads Ghana has made in the past four years in its quest to digitise the Ghanaian economy.

“Ghana has been on the path of significant digitisation in recent years and we are gearing up to leverage this to stimulate innovation and transformation,” Dr Bawumia added.
