Bawumia: Easter should encourage us to contribute to national development

The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, believes the Easter celebration must reawaken our passion for development and growth

Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the celebration of Easter must encourage Christians in particular, and Ghanaians in general, to contribute their quota to the country’s development.

His comments come as Christians across the world begin the celebration of Easter with Good Friday services today to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.

“The occasion should reawaken the passion to play a part in Ghana’s development and growth,” he posted on Facebook.

Dr Bawumia added: “While we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to humanity and await his return to save the world, the occasion should also reawaken our passion to play a part in Ghana’s development and growth.”

Dr Bawumia also used the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians to ensure they strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols to help contain the viral disease.

Observe COVID-19 protocols during Easter festivities

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admonished Ghanaians to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols during the Easter festivities.

It follows a similar call by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) for Ghanaians to desist from any mass gathering during the Easter period to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

In his Easter message to Ghanaians on Thursday 1 April 2021, president Akufo-Addo also appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads to avert accidents.

“Let us also embrace a positive road safety culture that keeps our family and nation safe. Fellow Ghanaians, I know this is not how we wanted to celebrate Easter, however, just as Christ rose again on the third day, I am sure that Ghana and indeed the whole world will rise again,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo also used the opportunity to wish Ghanaians a happy Easter.

“As we celebrate Christ victory over sin and the grave, let us observe all safety protocols and stay safe. On behalf of my beautiful wife Rebecca, my children and family and on behalf of government, I wish all Ghanaians a happy Easter and I hope the blood spilled on the cross will heal our land and heal us of our iniquities just as Christ is risen, Ghana will also rise, May God bless our home land Ghana.”
