Akufo-Addo, others bid farewell to Sir John

President Akufo-Addo led a government delegation to mourn the late senior member of the Ghana Bar Association and general secretary of the NPP

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president, led a delegation of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and government to the final funeral rites of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, on Thursday 3 June.

The funeral took place in the Kwabre East Municipal town of Sakora Wonoo.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral observed under strict COVID-19 protocols.

Other government officials including party stalwarts were also present to pay their last respects to the former CEO of the Forestry Commission and general secretary of the NPP.

President Akufo-Addo who shared fond memories of Sir John described him as a “loyalist” and a multifaceted man.

Until his death, Sir John was the chief executive officer of the Forestry Commission.

He was appointed as the CEO in March 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He died on Wednesday 1 July 2020 while undergoing treatment at the intensive-care unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
