Randsford Kwesi Nyarko, the district chief executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam has been granted bail by the police in the Central region after assaulting a police officer.
This follows his detention on Monday (14 December) after he was alleged to have led an assault on a police officer on duty at the Ochiso police station.
Corporal Frank Mensah following a complaint by a resident Adwoa Sophia had caused the arrest of Kwadwo Cosmos, an aide to the DCE as he was said to have also physically assaulted an 18-year-old nephew of the complainant.
The DCE, who did not take kindly to the arrest of his aid according to the police stormed the police station at Ochiso in the company of eight other youth including well-built men and in the process subjected the police corporal to severe beatings.
The police corporal Frank Mensah had to be rushed to the hospital by some members of the community police unit as he suffered various degree of injuries.
The situation forced the Regional Police Command to order the arrest of the DCE for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the DCE said he never played any role in the assault of the police officer as he only went there to seek bail for his aide.
According to Randsford Kwesi Nyarko, events rather turned chaotic as the angry youth could not exercise restraint following the refusal of the police officer to initially grant his aide bail.
According to him, he did his best to contain the situation but it got out of hand.
He has however pledged to assist the police to get to the bottom of the case.
