Agyinasare never took a loan from FirsTrust or GN Bank, says Perez Chapel

The founder of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Agyinasare, recently hit out at the government over the collapse of Ghanaian-owned institutions

Perez Chapel International has dismissed media reports that the founder of the church, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, applied for loans from either of two collapsed financial institutions – FirsTrust Savings & Loans or GN Bank.

A statement by the church said the information is an attempt to silence Bishop Agyinasare for his recent comments about the ills of society.

The statement signed by Apostle Raymond Acquah, administrative bishop of the church, described the allegations against Agyinasare as “ridiculous and mischievous”.

The church said it has taken notice of the “attack dogs” that have been unleashed on the preacher for daring to speak against the ills of life in Ghana.

Nonconformist

The statement said Bishop Agyinasare does not conform to the crippling culture of silence in the country and will continue to make his voice heard on matters of national interest.

“It is a known fact that if one dares to speak about the ills of society, attack dogs are readily unleashed to sustain the crippling culture of silence in our dear country,” the Perez Chapel statement said.

“I am to state on authority that Bishop Charles Agyinasare has never applied for nor secured any loan from the collapsed FirsTrust Savings & Loans Company and the GN Bank. The allegation is a complete fabrication and is, therefore, false.”

Criticising government

Bishop Agyinasare has been critical of the government’s decision to collapse some Ghanaian-owned financial institutions.

During a virtual sermon on Sunday themed “Getting rid of envy”, Agyinasare said the demons that make politicians target local businesses Ghana must be exorcised.

He said, “I have been asking myself; so, for Dr Kwabena Duffuor, under whose time as minister of finance, we had the best economic growth rate of 14%, there was nothing we could do with his bank?”

“What about Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, who introduced or expanded susu banking and had [more] branches than any commercial bank with more customers?” the Perez Chapel International founder asked.

“…Then, my own Amoabeng [Prince Amoabeng of UT fame], who helped me grow my money to my first $100,000, which I withdrew and gave out for the building of the [Perez] Dome as part of my contribution. Could nothing have been done to salvage some of these great institutions?” he asked.
