Election 2020: Stop whipping up tribal sentiment, NPP tells NDC

Deputy Campaign Manager of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, describes the various accusations levelled against the NPP as baseless

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to report any reservations over the just ended elections to the police and avoid whipping up tribal sentiments.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, Deputy Campaign Manager of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, described the various accusations levelled against the NPP as “baseless”.

“Why are you calling on Volta Region to rescue you; nobody is going to rescue you, your campaign has flopped. Are you a Volta party, I thought you are a national party. If indeed they have discovered illegal activities, they should go to the police and report those incidents,” he said.

The NDC on Monday, 7 December accused the NPP of stuffing ballot boxed, especially in Accra and Ejisu.

“A lady was arrested at Circle in the Greater Accra Region, when she was arrested, she pretended to be deaf, it is also happening at Ejisu, but for the vigilance of people at Ejisu and Accra, we wouldnā€™t have gotten these evidence,” he told journalists.

He bemoaned the low deployment of security officials in the nationwide voting exercise.

ā€œWe call on the IGP to deploy more security personnel to man polling stations without security in the Ashanti Region.”

He said the party has officially reported the incident to the electoral commission and is awaiting a response from the electoral body.

However, Dr Hamid has accused the NDC of resorting to mischief and lies ahead of the declaration of results.
