Chief of Wenchiki cries: 5000 people in my community use one borehole

The chief of Wenchiki in North East Region is appealing to authorities to provide more boreholes to improve water supply in the community

Chief of Wenchiki in the Chereponi District of the North East Region, Nana Abubakar Awuffor, is calling on the Water and Sanitation Ministry to increase access to water in the area.

Currently, the community of over 5,000 population depends on a single borehole for water supply.

The two additional boreholes constructed through the benevolence of the Church for Christ for the  community in 2007 are faulty.

“My people keep fighting everyday all because of water,” Awuffor told Asaase News’s North East regional correspondent, Dokurugu Alhassan.

“We don’t know what to do again, over 5000 residents in my community depend on one borehole because there’s no other sources of water to drink, bath or for household chores” he said.

On World Water Day (22 March), the chief told Asaase News that the community is no longer attractive to nurses and teachers who are posted to Wenchiki community due to the water crisis.

Awuffor appealed to authorities and other well-meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid.
