11 die in West Mamprusi motor crash

Some of the passengers who were seriously injured are currently receiving medical attention at nearby health facilities

At least 11 persons have been confirmed dead after a passenger vehicle tumbled on the Nasia bridge on Tuesday in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.

According to the police, the vehicle with registration number GT-7639-19 with about 45 passengers onboard was travelling from Kumasi to Garu in the Upper East Region when the incident occurred.

Speaking to Asaase News,  the Mamprusi Municipal police commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Yeboah, said: “I can tell you that 11 are dead and also 21 passengers are responding to treatment. So far one body is not yet found… 14 have been treated and discharged.”

Some of the passengers told Asaase News correspondent Dokurugu Alhassan that the driver was “feeling sleepy” when the incident occurred.

The victims have since been taken to the Walewale Government Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment, according to the police.
