Newmont Ahafo South Mines strengthens agricultural support with GHC368,000 donation to Asutifi North Farmers’ Day

Newmont Ahafo South Mines has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to agricultural development with a GHC368,000 support package for this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

The extensive donation included 1 Motor King (Large Bucket), 5 Motor Kings (Medium Bucket), 1 Royal Motorbike, 30 bicycles, 10 boxes of cutlasses, 5 Nasco 42-inch televisions, 170 pairs of Wellington boots, 50 pieces of GTP Adepa fabric, and 480 branded Farmers’ Day T-shirts.

Speaking during the presentation, Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo South Mines, said the company remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing livelihoods within its operational areas.

“Agriculture plays a key role in Ghana’s local and national economy. Newmont’s ability to support this sector demonstrates our purpose of improving lives in the communities where we operate,” he stated.

“This donation is not the end. We will continue to support Farmers’ Day celebrations across the country, helping to improve lives and sustain Newmont for decades to come.”

He emphasiSed that Newmont sees farming as an essential partner industry and will maintain its investments to ensure food security and economic growth in the region.

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Hafiz Dauda Dabeil, praised Newmont’s consistent support over the years, noting that the company continues to play a major role in strengthening agricultural productivity in the district and across the Ahafo Region.

“Although Newmont is a mining company, its commitment to supporting agriculture is remarkable. Their contributions help Asutifi North and the wider Ahafo Region to grow and feed Ghana,” he said.

This year’s Farmers’ Day is being marked under the theme “Grow Ghana, Eat Ghana.”

Also addressing the gathering, Joseph Danso, Director of Social Performance at Newmont, highlighted the company’s two-decade-long dedication to the celebration of farmers.

“Farmers’ Day has always been special to us. For more than 20 years, Newmont has supported district and regional celebrations to honour the hard work and resilience of farmers,” he noted.

“Our motivation is to demonstrate to our communities and stakeholders that even though we are mining, farming remains critical. We share the land responsibly to ensure we all achieve the expected outcomes.”

He stressed that Newmont understands the central role of agriculture in ensuring local food security and pledged continued support to farmers within their operational zones.

The gesture reinforces Newmont’s broader commitment to sustainable community development and long-term partnership with farmers whose efforts help sustain livelihoods across the region.
