NEIP spearheads “Adwumawura” programme to empower 10,000 young entrepreneurs annually
Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), said the "Adwumawura" initiative was not just a policy framework but a "lifeline" for thousands of young Ghanaians facing limited opportunities

Ghana has officially launched the Adwumawura Program, a new flagship initiative aimed at cultivating 10,000 young entrepreneurs across the country.
The programme, unveiled at a ceremony in Kumasi on Monday (28 April) attended by senior government officials and traditional leaders, is seen as a key step towards reshaping Ghana’s economic future by tapping into the energy and potential of its youth population.
Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), said the “Adwumawura” initiative was not just a policy framework but a “lifeline” for thousands of young Ghanaians facing limited opportunities.
“This is more than just a programme. It is a lifeline for countless young individuals who rise each morning with big dreams but often face closed doors,” Adjei said.
He added that under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, who he credited for the initiative, the country was committed to helping youth realise their ambitions.
The Adwumawura Program builds on earlier efforts, notably the Youth Enterprise Support Fund launched in 2014, which later evolved into NEIP. NEIP has already supported thousands of young entrepreneurs in establishing businesses across sectors.
Several complementary initiatives were also highlighted at the launch, including the Presidential Innovation Challenge, which encourages youth-driven innovation, and the Vice Presidential Empowerment Programme for Women and Persons with Disabilities.
Mr Adjei emphasised the importance of partnerships with development agencies, industry stakeholders, and the youth themselves in ensuring the programme’s success.
Hon. George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, described the launch as a “historic” moment, noting that the establishment of a dedicated youth ministry underscored government’s commitment to economic inclusion.
“This is a historic initiative that aligns with the broader vision of youth empowerment under President Mahama’s leadership,” he said.
A representative of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Okyere Kusi Ntrama, also addressed the gathering, describing the programme as a “well-crafted promise” to the youth of Ghana.
“This programme is not just well-crafted; it is a promise that President Mahama has made to the youth of Ghana,” he said, welcoming the initiative’s launch in Kumasi.
The Adwumawura Program, officials say, is part of a broader strategy to transform Ghana’s economy by creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs and fostering innovation from an early age.
The government hopes the programme will help lay the foundations for a more inclusive and prosperous future, encouraging young Ghanaians to take charge of their destinies.
