Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, has dismissed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) much-touted “reset agenda,” describing it as a reversal of Ghana’s economic progress rather than meaningful reform.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (12 January), Aboagye argued that Ghana’s political history shows a recurring cycle in which economic recovery under New Patriotic Party (NPP) administrations is followed by decline under the NDC.
He recalled that when the NPP took office in 2001 under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ghana was forced to declare itself a Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) to regain fiscal space. By 2008, he said, the country had transformed into a “gateway to Africa” and entered what he described as a golden age of business.
According to Aboagye, the NDC capitalised on economic hardships caused by the 2008 global financial crisis by mixing facts with misinformation to erode public confidence in the NPP, eventually winning power.
“When they returned to office, dissenting voices were shut down with the slogan of single-digit inflation,” he said, warning that the same strategy is being repeated under the current administration.
He contended that the so-called reset has translated into worsening living conditions for ordinary Ghanaians, insisting that rising costs and suppressed dissent mirror past failures.
