AMA: Ban on noise making begins 10 May

The AMA says its taskforce is collaborating with the police to ensure strict adherence to the ban to avert any clash

This year’s ban on drumming and noise making in the Greater Accra Region will commence from 10 May to 10 June , the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has said.

A statement issued and signed by the PRO of the AMA Gilbert Nii Ankrah appealed to the public to avoid flouting the various directives and guidelines during the month long period.

“During the period of the ban, the usual form of worship should be confined to the premises of churches/mosques and noise levels be minimized to the barest limits possible. The positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs are banned. Roadside evangelists are to cease their activities during this period,” the statement said.

The AMA says its taskforce is collaborating with the police to ensure strict adherence to the ban to avert any clash between the traditional authorities and potential offenders.

“Apart from an identifiable task force that consists of AMA personnel, the Ghana Police Service and representatives from the traditional councils with tags, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis,” the statement added.
