NDC seeks substituted service for election petition against three NPP MPs
Regional counsel, Evans Amankwah, has alleged that the MPs are deliberately evading all attempts by the Kumasi High Court to serve them.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team in the Ashanti Region has filed a motion for substituted service after failing to serve court documents on three sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) for Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North.
Regional counsel, Evans Amankwah, has alleged that the MPs are deliberately evading all attempts by the Kumasi High Court to serve them.
“Unfortunately, the first respondents in this whole situation—that is, the sitting Members of Parliament who have been illegally and fraudulently declared as members—have not been able to be served. They are evading service. The bailiff has tried on several occasions. They have been to Accra checking up on them but have not been able to serve them,” Amankwah said.
He disclosed that the team would move a motion for substituted service on Friday, January 25, 2025. If granted, the court will allow alternative methods of serving the documents, such as posting copies at Parliament House, the notice board at the Kumasi High Court, or even through WhatsApp.
The Kumasi High Court has adjourned the case to Friday (24 January) for the hearing of the motion. Evans Amankwah expressed confidence in the motion, stating that it would enable the case to proceed.
He urged party supporters to remain calm, reassuring them that justice would be delivered.
“We will tell these people to exercise the maximum restraint so that they wouldn’t take the law into their own hands. We will go through the process, and justice will be given to them,” he said.
On 15 January 2025, the NDC filed a court application in Kumasi, challenging the 2024 election results in three constituencies: Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North.
The party maintains that its candidates won these seats despite a recount of votes and the swearing-in of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs. The NDC argues that the declaration of the NPP candidates as winners was unlawful and is seeking a reversal of the results.
The application was filed by Evans Amankwah, alongside regional executives and the affected candidates, as part of their legal efforts to reclaim the disputed parliamentary seats.
