In a related development, the incumbent MP for Pru East constituency in the Bono East Region, Dr Kwabena Donkor, has been defeated in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
He polled 371 votes as against his main contender Emmanuel Kwaku Boam who secured 474 votes. Fiaworno Bright Amedo polled 66 votes. Four rejected votes were recorded.

Re-election
Meanwhile, Sam George has been retained as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ningo-Prampram constituency for the 2024 elections.
Provisional results say the incumbent MP polled 1,036 votes out of 1,771 expected votes in the constituency to beat his sole contender to seek for a third term in Parliament.

The voting exercise in the Ningo-Prampram constituency was characterised by confusion between the camps of the two candidates in the parliamentary race – Sam George and his contender, Michael Kwetey Tetteh – over an alleged court order.
The police and electoral commission officials later resolved the issue.
Duffuor withdrawal: “Good riddance”, says Sam George
Ahead of voting, George said a presidential hopeful of the party Kwabena Duffuor made the right decision to pull out of the race because he was never going to make any impact.
Duffuor had reversed his decision earlier on Friday to place a court injunction on the primary race after expressing reservations about discrepancies in the electoral roll.
“I wish to reiterate my commitment to the party and its grassroots. However, my concerns that the party is not ready to conduct free and fair election is evident for all to see,” he said in a statement. “Taking part in such would be akin to knowingly drinking from a poisoned calabash.”
Touching on the development, George, who has always campaigned for the lead contender John Mahama, the former president who represented the party in the 2012, 2016 and 2020 elections, said the former governor of the central bank had no case.
“It’s beautiful nonsense and a good riddance,” George told the media in reference to Duffuor’s decision to withdraw from the race on Friday.
“I told you Kwabena Duffuor is not in this race to contesting John Mahama. I said he was contesting against spoilt ballot; spoilt ballots have beaten Kwabena Duffuor and that’s too bad.
“Kwabena Duffuor has absolutely no case to make. When we all went through vetting we were given delegates’ list and there has been absolutely no problem with the delegates’ list,” he added.
George believes he is going to win the parliamentary primary to represent the constituency again having being in Parliament since 2017.
“It’s going to be a resounding victory. It’s a battle between light and darkness and I have never seen anywhere where light has prevailed over darkness,” the vociferous lawmaker said.
