NCCE boss to Akufo-Addo: Your sterling ECOWAS leadership occasioned my new appointment

Outgoing Chairperson of the NCCE, Josephine Nkrumah says her new appointment as ECOWAS Special Representative to Liberia, is a product of President Akufo-Addo's sterling leadership of the regional body

The outgoing chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Josephine Nkrumah says her new appointment as ECOWAS Special Representative to Liberia, is a product of President Akufo-Addo’s sterling performance as two-term chairperson of the authority of heads of state of the Economic Community of West African (ECOWAS).

She made the observation when she paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, to present her letter of resignation to him today 21 February 2022, to pave way for her to pick-up her new role as Special Representative of ECOWAS to Liberia.

“I believe very strongly that your distinguished chairmanship is really what has propelled Ghana within the space of ECOWAS and that causes ECOWAS to turn to Ghana and look for people for certain positions,” Nkrumah said.

“I believe strongly that without that kind of leadership that you have shown in ECOWAS, a lot of these roles will not have turned to the direction of Ghana,” she said.

“I am committed to go and do my best there, to make you proud, to make Ghana proud and to make Africa proud,” Nkrumah added.

Resignation

Presenting her letter of resignation to the President at the Jubilee House on Monday (21 February 2022), Nkrumah noted that she has accepted to be the Special Representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to Liberia.

“As we speak, I just offered my letter of acceptance to ECOWAS to be the ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia with the duty post in Monrovia,” madam Josephine Nkrumah said.

“As the father of the land and the appointing authority, I deem it necessary to come and see you and officially tender in my resignation which will take effect on the 30 April,” she added.

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo in accepting her letter of resignation congratulated her and indicated that it is a momentous new move she was embarking on.

The President expressed great confidence in the ability of the outgoing NCCE boss to function effectively in her new role, having regard to her sterling performance during her five year stay at the NCCE.

“We have been together here for the last five years and we have seen the quality of the work you have done. I have no doubt that this is a job you are going to do to bring credit to yourself and to us, your country Ghana, so I have to wish you the very best of luck,” President Akufo-Addo said.

Outgoing NCCE boss

The outgoing NCCE boss was appointed and sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama on 20 December 2016.

Prior to her promotion, she was a deputy chairperson of the NCCE in charge of Finance and Administration.

The position became vacant after the then chair of NCCE Charlotte Osei was appointed the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Her appointment at the time was her second promotion in less than 19 months. Josephine Nkrumah holds a BA (Law & French) from the University of Ghana.
