Court sets date to commerce trial of woman accused of killing Ghanaian residing in Canada

Safina, a 23-year-old level 100 student, is alleged to have killed Farnk Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada, with other accomplices when he visited her at Ashaley Botw

The trial of Safina Adizatu Mohammed, the lady who is alleged to have murdered Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian residing in Canada, is set to commence on 9 May.

This follows the completion of opening addresses by both prosecution and defence lawyers.

Safina, a 23-year-old level 100 student, is alleged to have killed Farnk Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada, with other accomplices when he visited her at Ashaley Botwe, a suburb of Accra, while on vacation in Ghana.

The prosecution, led by a senior state attorney, Nana Ama Adinkra, said in her opening address that they will call nine (9) witnesses to testify before the court.

These nine witnesses will include five police officers and one Michael Fiifi Ampofo, alleged to be another boyfriend of the accused.

The prosecution, while urging the jury to return a verdict of guilt at the end of the trial, explained that the deceased was chained by the accused under the pretence of engaging in a sexual act known as ‘Kinky’.

According to the prosecutor, the accused was stabbed in the process but was unable to defend himself because he was helpless.

She further narrated that an autopsy conducted on the deceased on 29 July 2022 indicated that indeed, the deceased was stabbed.

The prosecution stated that the deceased died from unlawful harm caused by Safina Mohammed.

Lawyer Samuel Alesu Dordzi, defending the accused, asked the jury to give the accused a listening ear and not the rumours that are bundled around. He asked them to be impartial to all the things that would be said in court.

The prosecution said the deceased was stabbed with a knife and strangled, leading to his demise.

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, before adjourning the case, asked the jury to uphold the principles of fairness and justice by paying attention to all the evidence that will be presented before them, adding that they should be unbiased towards both the accused and the deceased.
