National Security Council requests evacuation of 706 ECG containers

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)/“flying containers” (March 2025)/National Security Council

The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in an official letter said it formally requested the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) to assist in evacuating 706 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The containers are to be relocated to the NSCS warehouse in Abelemkpe, according to a letter signed by National Security Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak.

The letter dated 15 March stated that the NSCS also instructed the suspension of all port charges on the containers pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

While the nature of the investigations remains undisclosed, the directive suggests potential irregularities or security concerns surrounding the shipment.

Copies of the letter were sent to the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Revenue Authority, indicating inter-agency coordination.

The NSCS stressed confidentiality, though no further details were provided about the contents or origin of the containers.
