Nana Ampadu to receive befitting state burial, says Eugene Arhin
The director of communications in the Office of the President says the family of the late Nana Ampadu will be duly informed of the president’s directive

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed that a befitting state-assisted burial be organised for the legendary highlife musician Nana Kwame Ampadu.
Addressing the media at Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday (11 November), Eugene Arhin, the director of communications in the Office of the President, said: “The president has taken the decision to honour the late legendary highlife musician Nana Kwame Ampadu with a state-assisted burial in honour of his services to the growth of Ghanaian music.
“This information will be duly communicated to the family of the late singer and a befitting burial ceremony will be organised for this noble singer of Ghana.”
Akufo-Addo eulogises Ampadu
Akufo-Addo has described the late highlife master Nana Kwame Ampadu as someone who believed in the president’s vision for the transformation of Ghana.
Nana Ampadu died at the age of 76 on 28 September at his residence in Akweteyman in the Greater Accra Region.
“Nana Ampadu believed in my vision for the transformation of Ghana, and assisted me tremendously on the campaign trail in the run-up to my victory in the elections of 2016, for which I remain eternally grateful.
“His was a life well lived, and he will be sorely missed. My deep condolences to his widow, children and family,” the president said in a Facebook post.
Stream of hits
Nana Ampadu was born on 31 March 1945 in Obo-Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
He is credited with numerous popular highlife tracks and is reported to have composed over 800 songs.
The brain behind the classic hit “Ɔman bo adwo” moved into the mainstream when he formed the African Brothers Band in 1963.
Ampadu’s style of music is loved by all, both children and adults.
He was highly regarded for producing a stream of great hits. They include “Ebi te yie”, “Aku Sika”, “Kofi Nkrabea”, “Obiaa ba nnyɛ”, “Woyoo Woyoo”, “Mother”, “Mentumi ngyae wo”, “Agartha”, “Ayɛ Sɛ Yɛ Dɔ Wo”, “Ɔbra”, “Drivers”, “Anibere nnyɛ”, “Ɔman bo adwo” and “Kwaata”.
