MUSIGA election slated for 8 August

MUSIGA has postponed its elections several times since 2019 when Bice Osei Kuffour aka ‘Obour’ finished his tenure as president

The national executive council of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has proposed 8 August 2023 for the regional and national elections.

MUSIGA has postponed its elections several times since 2019 when Bice Osei Kuffour aka ‘Obour’ finished his tenure as president.

There had been issues concerning the update of the voters’ register and confusion over delegates’ eligibility status. The acting president of the union, Bessa Simons, who has been in office for the past four years, said the roadmap had been prepared for a smooth election.

“According to the roadmap, the voters’ register has been opened from 20 March to 3 April 2023. This is to allow members to check their status and eligibility,” Simons said.

“Thereafter, the new voters’ register for the election will be compiled from 4 to 18 April 2023,” he added.

The new register will be exhibited from 20 to 23 April 2023 before the actual election is held on the proposed date of 8 August.

After the election, the new leaders are expected to organise the biennial conference to work on the union’s constitution, among many other issues.
