The MTN Ghana Foundation has selected 50 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Central Region as beneficiaries for its Enterprise Support Programme.
The beneficiaries will receive financial assistance and technical training to effectively manage and scale up their businesses.
SMEs play an important role in economic development, but access to finance remains a significant challenge, particularly for startups.
To address this, MTN Ghana Foundation’s Enterprise Support Programme aims to bridge this gap focusing on enterprises led by youth, women, and differently-abled individuals.
Speaking at an onboarding ceremony in Cape Coast on Wednesday to announce the beneficiaries from the region, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, chief corporate services and sustainability officer, MTN Ghana, said the programme would offer financial assistance, training and technical support to the selected SMEs to grow their businesses and make positive impacts in their respective communities.
“This programme is under the pillar of economic empowerment of the Foundation. We want to be able to empower people to grow businesses especially the marginalized group, she said.
She added that a total of 150 SMEs across the country will receive up to 20,000 Ghana Cedis this year under the SME Support Programme.
Nelson Amo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Innohub Foundation, an implementing partner, expressed gratitude to MTN for the programme, adding that the initiative would unlock growth opportunities for SMEs and accelerate youth entrepreneurship.
He further advised the beneficiaries to use the funds for their intended purposes to be able to grow their businesses and create jobs for others.
