MTN Ghana has been named the overall winner of the MTN Group 2025 Million Dollar Challenge, an achievement its Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, says reflects the company’s strong performance across all sectors.
The award, presented at the MTN Global Leadership Gathering 2026, recognised operational excellence across the Group’s markets, highlighting MTN Ghana’s gains in data services, customer experience, network expansion, and fintech growth—especially mobile money.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the MTN Bright Conversation, Blewett credited the success to the dedication of the company’s workforce.
“It’s always very pleasing to be the CEO of a very successful organisation. But the reality of MTN Ghana’s success is the engaged and passionate people we have here,” he said.
He noted that the recognition was not the work of a single team but a collective effort.
“It’s the first time in my career that I’ve looked back at the year and couldn’t think of a single department that hasn’t done well. That’s unusual,” he stated.
Following the win, Blewett announced plans to invest over $300 million in Ghana this year to expand infrastructure and deepen digital transformation.
“Any business wants a stable macro environment, and that’s what we got in 2025,” he said, adding that economic stability is crucial for long-term capital planning.
He explained that relative exchange rate stability boosts the company’s ability to procure network equipment and accelerate expansion. “A stronger cedi improves our purchasing power for critical infrastructure,” he said.
Looking ahead, the CEO outlined plans to extend network coverage to peri-urban and rural communities, enhance digital self-service platforms such as MyMTN, and support small businesses to thrive in Ghana’s digital economy.
“I’m looking forward to a year of innovation… to lead in driving innovation in Ghana and making it meaningful for our customers,” he added.
