MTN Ghana empowers aspiring writers through creative writing clinics

Creative Writing Clinics/MTN Ghana

MTN Ghana has partnered with celebrated journalist and author Manasseh Azure Awuni to empower aspiring writers across the country through a national creative writing initiative.

The Creative Writing Clinics, held in Accra on 21 June and in Tamale on 28 June, brought together over 200 participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, health workers, teachers, and media professionals.

The clinics offered participants hands-on training in writing techniques and featured interactive sessions led by accomplished facilitators such as Manasseh Azure Awuni, Abdul Hayi Moomen, and Maukeni Ribeiro. Topics covered included storytelling structure, creative expression, narrative style, and navigating criticism and public feedback.

Participants lauded the clinic for its practical and inspiring approach. “This was more than a workshop—it gave me direction,” said Dorcas Kongwie, a communications professional with Foto4Change and Buta Photography. “Now I understand how to better express my voice as a blogger and communicator.”

Benedicta Daanaah, another participant, described the clinic as “a master class” and urged organisers to include sessions on publishing in future editions.

The programme was fully sponsored by MTN Ghana and Star Oil, who covered all logistics, writing materials, and participant welfare, ensuring that no participant bore any cost.

“We’re truly grateful to our sponsors. They ensured that no participant had to pay a cedi,” said Manasseh Azure Awuni, expressing his appreciation.

Manasseh also highlighted the long-term vision of the initiative, which is to build a confident and skilled community of Ghanaian storytellers. “Writing can make a real-world impact. I’ve seen it firsthand,” he said, citing an instance where a university essay he wrote inspired significant sanitation reforms.

Following the strong turnout and overwhelmingly positive feedback, there are growing calls for the writing clinic to be expanded nationwide. According to organisers, future editions will depend on funding and sponsorship support.
