MP Simon Aworigo leads push to complete Navrongo Youth Resource Centre and Stadium
The initiative, originally launched under the previous NPP administration, stalled years ago. Despite being the first of its kind in the Upper East Region with a green pitch, VIP stands, offices, washrooms, and auxiliary facilities

Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Akibange Aworigo, has intensified efforts to finalize the long-abandoned Navrongo Youth Resource Centre, urging government action and community support following years of neglect.
Speaking to Asaase News on 18 June 2025, Aworigo highlighted the project’s immense potential to empower youth through sports development and skills training, saying the centre “will serve as a vital springboard for the many talented young people in Navrongo and the Upper East Region.”
The initiative, originally launched under the previous NPP administration, stalled years ago. Despite being the first of its kind in the Upper East Region with a green pitch, VIP stands, offices, washrooms, and auxiliary facilities, the incomplete project remains idle while similar developments across the country have been completed and put to use.
Residents became increasingly vocal about the lack of progress on the project.
In 2022, local youth launched a social media campaign dubbed #CompleteNavrongoStadiumNow, alongside street protests, lamenting the absence of a proper venue despite local football clubs qualifying for the Division One League. They warned that without a functioning home ground, emerging teams like Kassena-Nankana United face relegation and a lack of infrastructure holding back regional sports development.
In response, Aworigo said he is actively pursuing solutions. He indicated that he had lodged formal petitions and follow-up letters with the National Youth Authority, Ministry of Youth & Sports, and state agencies. He also confirmed recent discussions with Sports Minister Kofi Adams, expressing optimism that work will resume soon and reach completion.
“I’m not resting on this issue. I’ve been engaging the authorities consistently and will keep doing so until we see results,” he said.
