Ministry of Roads and Highways reintroduces road and bridge tolls

The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to addressing the current challenges in tolling and road maintenance funding.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls in Ghana, effective today (6 February 2025). The move aims to generate revenue for road maintenance and related infrastructure projects.

In a press release issued on Thursday (6 February 2025), the Ministry outlined its intention to implement a modern, technologically driven toll collection system. The new system will be introduced through an open, transparent, and competitive procurement process to ensure cost-effectiveness and fairness.

The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to addressing the current challenges in tolling and road maintenance funding.

This initiative is expected to enhance the country’s road infrastructure and ensure sustainable maintenance practices.

Nastar Ahmad Yartey, head of the Public Relations Unit, signed the release, emphasising the government’s dedication to a modernised and efficient tolling system.
