Meet the evergreen DJ Candy Man: Celebrating 25 years in the media
One of Ghana’s celebrated radio presenters, DJ Candy Man, celebrates 25 years on air in July this year

Alex Kwaku Amoah, also known as DJ Candy Man of Asaase 99.5 Accra is celebrating 25 years of radio work in July this year..
With sleek communication and second-to-none disc jockeying skills, DJ Candy Man has won the hearts of many radio listeners in Accra and Kumasi.
Speaking on Asaase Showbiz with Andy Sepah on Monday (18 June), he said, “When you are focused, you can do a lot for a brand. I have been in the media for 25 years but I’ve been DJing for 33 years.”
He is a powerful force on radio who likes to be referred to as “Music Man” because he is an entertainer.
Talking about his Disc Jockeying journey, he said, “I started from school a campus radio, Radio Link 99.5, at Kumasi Polytechnic. Then I worked in a nightclub afterwards. I moved to Hello FM 102.1 from 2005 to 2011 and later moved to Accra Rainbow radio 87.5 for two and half years. I then moved to Atinka as the head of entertainment, and finally to Asaase 99.5 Accra. So it has been a journey.”
Backbiting
In his entire radio career, DJ Candy Man has proven to be one of Ghana’s unmatched talents but despite all these, he faced challenges.
He said: “Some of the issues have to do with criticisms from my colleagues. Let’s say I am doing a Morning Show before you realise people will start advocating for me to be replaced. But basically, I think it’s normal.”
Retiring
Candy Man has trained many radio presenters and DJs who are making a lot of impact on the music scene.
He has, however, advised the young and upcoming talents who want to excel in the media landscape to be disciplined.
“You have to be disciplined, you can’t outshine your boss. So always make sure you work according to the rules and regulations governing your work. That will take you far, without discipline you can’t go nowhere.”
“I’m planning to retire from the media very soon. I can’t say the exact date but it’s very soon,” he disclosed.
