Asaase Radio goes live

Be factual and objective, Asaase Radio board members charge staff

Asaase Radio 99.5, the Pan-African multimedia station, was launched here in Accra on Sunday 14 June 2020.

To mark the launch, the symbolic ribbon was cut at the Cantonments premises of Asaase Radio by Ms Elizabeth Akua Ohene, the veteran Ghanaian journalist and international broadcaster, with staff members of the station, the board of directors and shareholders in attendance.

In brief remarks, Mr Isaac Emmil Osei-Bonsu, a distinguished Ghanaian lawyer and board member of Asaase Broadcasting Company (ABC) Radio Ltd, the mother company of Asaase Radio, urged the staff to seek to champion the truth at all times and strive to be professional and objective in all their endeavours.

“As you go about your work, it is imperative that the information that you serve your listeners with is always 100% factual, and void of any personal opinions when reporting. This is a business, a professional environment, and you, who represent the brand, must always strive to portray just that,” he said as he advised staff on how to stay away from defaming people in their reports.

As part of the launch, Ms Elizabeth Akua Ohene, also a shareholder and board member, held a 20-minute in-house training with the news crew on media ethics; while Mr Reginald Daniel Laryea, the renowned advertising consultant who is also a shareholder and board member, held a session with the sales and marketing team on the importance of marketing to build the brand and drive sales.

Asaase’s board chairman and senior partner of the corporate law firm Africa Legal Associates, Mr Gabby Otchere-Darko, told the staff that there are great expectations resting on their young shoulders and that the competition out there may be stiff, but they can surely excel. “Just let the quality of your content speak,” he stressed.

Members of the board

Shareholders and members of the board of Asaase Radio who attended the launch event included Mr Gabby Otchere-Darko, the board chairman, Mr Joseph Ofori-Atta of Woolworths fame, Ms Nana Adjoa Hackman, managing partner of Africa Legal Associates, Mr Ebow Brew-Hammond and Mr Kojo Opoku Agyeman, who also doubles as the company’s chief executive officer.
